A Sisters' Almanac — November 2025

As light wanes and days shorten, November draws us inward — linger over art, and savour the simple, nourishing pleasures that enrich the season.

1 — Before the end-of-year gatherings begin to fill our calendars, we are taking a moment to visit Triple Trouble at the Newport Street Gallery. Uniting three disruptive artists, Shepard Fairey, Damien Hirst and Invader, this unprecedented show brings together a vivid mix of individual works and new collaborations. With Invader’s mosaics appearing in Notting Hill since 1999, there’s a familiar delight from spotting his pixelated artworks around our own streets.

Also on our list: Lee Miller at Tate Britain, the most expansive UK retrospective of the American photographer. Her path from fashion model to surrealist, then war correspondent, is nothing short of extraordinary. And at the Barbican, Dirty Looks explores fashion’s ongoing flirtation with decay, tracing beauty through imperfection, elegance through the undone. A reminder that what fades or frays can often hold its own quiet grace.

3 — There is joy in staying in, and leaning into the lengthening evenings. Turn away from the outside world and lose yourself in stories that linger — we’ve been captivated by Black Rabbit, House of Dynamite, and Guillermo del Toro’s reimagining of Frankenstein.

5 — Seek nourishing meals that warm from within, we rate Skye Gyngell's borlotti bean soup.

Sauté chopped onion, garlic and torn sage leaves in olive oil until soft.
Chop and add 4 carrots and 3 celery stalks, turn the heat down low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes more.
Stir in 250g each of cooked borlotti and farro beans, then pour in 600ml of chicken stock. Turn up the heat to medium, cook for 10 minutes more and season to taste.
