A Sisters' Almanac — July 2025

Hot days bring a certain unruliness, in mood and in pace. We're leaning on outfits that are quietly practical: easy to pack, soft to layer and never trying too hard — just right for getting out and about and making the most of the warmth. In between trips, some exciting art shows are well worth staying in town for.

1 — There's only one rule for holiday packing: every item must work hard and be worn three ways. We champion the simplicity of off-white linen trousers — a reliable travel trick that requires minimal effort and takes us from deck chair to dinner.

The Caleb make a playful ankle length option, while the Ferry offer full-length elegance, and if a sundress is preferable, we recommend the Ida.

2 — A must-wear companion is a breezy top with joyful embroidery, adding refinement for the evening or city promenades.

3 — Be inspired by Sicilian traditions and cool down with a Watermelon Granita.

Cut the flesh of a small watermelon into chunks (removing the seeds), place in a freezer bag and add the juice of one lime. Add either chopped stem ginger in syrup, as Jamie Oliver recommends, or 100g of sugar. Lay the bag flat in the freezer for about 8 hours. Once frozen, blitz in batches using a blender. Serve in glasses with a few mint leaves.

4 — Our cultural agenda this summer takes us to the South Bank where Louise Bourgeois' Maman returns to the Turbine Hall in celebration of Tate Modern's 25th anniversary. Commissioned for the gallery's opening in 2000, this monumental sculpture of a female spider has since toured the world and is now back on display until 25th August. Bourgeois once said "The Spider is an ode to my mother. She was my best friend", alluding to her mother's intelligence, patience and nurturing strength.

Summertime is always eventful at the Southbank Centre, but the highlight this year is arguably Yoshitomo Nara's solo show at the Hayward Gallery (until 31st August). His rebellious, childlike figures stare back at the viewer expressing joy, defiance, isolation — all while conveying the artist lifelong anti-war stance.

5 — Good podcasts are essential when travelling—they animate road trips, airport lines and peaceful moments in between. Team Aimé's favourite, Articles of Interest, is back for its sixth season, opening with an episode on school uniforms. We love this show which, in the words of its producer Avery Trufelman, is "about what we wear". It brims with intriguing stories and anchors clothing deeply in culture.

Taking a more intimate approach, Fashion Neurosis with Bella Freud is a weekly conversation between the designer and her guests, exploring the connection between fashion and identity — and what we reveal through the clothes we wear. Recent exchanges have included Alessandro Michele, Hanif Kureishi and Christian Louboutin.
